Piano Life Saver
Suboptimal or inconsistent humidity can negatively impact tuning stability, action regulation, and the overall health of your piano. While solving indoor climate problems at their source is ideal, such solutions are not always feasible or sufficient. For this reason, many piano owners rely on the Piano Life Saver by Dampp-Chaser, a humidity control system designed specifically for pianos. Piano Life Savers are a popular accessory for piano owners in Charlotte, where maintaining appropriate indoor humidity levels is a particularly common environmental challenge.
How the Piano Life Saver Works
Through its three core components – a humidistat, dehumidifier, and humidifier – the Piano Life Saver continuously monitors and stabilizes humidity levels near your piano’s most critical components. The system is low-maintenance, energy-efficient, and completely noiseless.

Humidistat
Monitors relative humidity and activates the dehumidifier and humidifier as needed

Dehumidifier
Removes excess moisture when relative humidity is too high

Humidifier
Supplies moisture when relative humidity is too low
Maintaining consistent relative humidity levels between 40-50% can reduce the risk of problems including:
• Tuning instability
• Sluggish or sticking keys
• Regulation issues and decreased action responsiveness
• Premature failure or cracking of tuning pinblock, bridge, or soundboard
• Glue joint failure
• Mold growth or mildew
• Corrosion or oxidation damage to strings, tuning pins,
and other metal components and hardware

Purchasing and Installation
Piano Life Saver systems are exclusively sold by System Retailers and installed by Certified Installers, both designations held by Brad Fant Piano Service. Systems are installed underneath grand pianos, and inside or behind upright pianos. The necessary components and configuration depend on your piano’s style and size, and the severity of environmental challenges. In spaces with significant humidity fluctuations, consider pairing the Piano Life Saver system with an undercover, an optional accessory for grand pianos that helps retain controlled conditions and enhance system effectiveness by creating a microenvironment beneath your piano.
